Norman of Virginia, Bibb & Liberty Counties

This is a very old family whose origin is Orchard, Somerset, England. It begins with George Norman, son of George Norman and his wife, Joanna, who married Anne Tolson on 27 February 1628 in Cecil County, Maryland, Anne Tolson. Known issue:[1]

Isaac Norman, born 5 October 1692 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, died 7 April 1748 in Culpeper County, Virginia, buried in the Culpeper Cemetery. He was married 1716 to Frances Courtney in Spotsylania County. Frances was born 17 January 1696 in Spotsylvania County and died 1752 in Culpeper County. Issue:

Joseph T. Norman, born 1723 in Culpeper County, died 16 February 1784, buried in the Culpepper Cemetery. He was married in 1749 to Mary Read (born 1723, died 25 August 1764 Culpeper County, Virginia), the daughter of John Read and his wife, Winifred (Favior) Read. Issue:

• William Norman, born 1750 in Culpeper County, Virginia, died 1827 near Lincolnton, Lincoln County, Georgia. William Norman. A deed of Lazarus Mallard and Mary, widow and executrix of William Norman, deceased), of Liberty County to John Robarts and Mary, his wife, she being a daughter of the said William and Mary Norman, Cyrus Gildersleeve and Rinchie, his wife, she being a daughter of the said William and Mary Norman, and William Norman, son of said William and Mary Norman, and his wife, Rebecca (which said Mary Mallard, Mary Robarts, Rinchie Gildersleeve and William Norman, the younger, are the widow and children of the said William Norman, Sr., deceased, to Roger Parker Saunders of Liberty County, deed on 17 December 1794, 350 acres of land in old St. John’s Parish (now Liberty County), granted on 5 March 1756 to A. Maxwell and deeded by him to the deceased, William Norman, on 1 November 1770. (Liberty County Deed Book H, page 181). Issue:
  1. George Norman, born ca 1770 in Fauquier County, Virginia, died 1817 in Lincoln County, Georgia, buried near Lincolnton. He married Sarah Groce (born 1773 in Surry County, North Carolina, died 5 December in Macon, Georgia, buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery. She was a daughter of Jared Ellison Groce and his wife, Sarah (Sheppard) Groce. Issue:

     1. Mary Ross Norman, born ca 1789, died 9 October 1837, at sea, off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
     2. Nancy Norman, born ca 1800 in Lincoln County, died after 1881 in Macon.
     3. William Sheppard Norman, born 27 June 1802 in Lincoln County, died 2 February 1890 in New London, Union County, Arkansas. He married Martha Adelaide Watts (born 4 October 1807 in Greene County, died 4 October 1896 in New London, Union County, Arkansas), on 6 March 1827 in Bibb County, a daughter of Harrison Watts and his wife, Mary (Bedell) Watts. They were residents of Harrison, Arkansas in 1880. Issue:
