Nesmith of Screven and Wilkinson Counties
James Nesmith, Sr. was a resident of Screven County in 1799 when he deeded some land to Charles Nesmith, 150 acres on the Savannah River. He later received a land grant in 1820 of 300 acres in Screven County; and again in 1821 of 500 acres. Wife, Elizabeth. He was listed on the 1820 Screven County Census; also on the 1830-1840 Wilkinson County Census. Issue:[1]
- James Nesmith, Jr., born 1800 in Screven County. Wife, Jane. Listed on the 1840-1850 Wilkinson County Census. He deeded to Michael Dooling of Screven County on 1 December 1831, 130 acres in Screven County (Deed Book L, page 393-4). Issue:

- Charles E. Nesmith, born 1828 in Wilkinson County, married Martha Lavender on 25 November 1852 in Wilkinson County.

- William Nesmith, born 1833 in Wilkinson County, married Nancy Martin on 4 January 1855 in Wilkinson County.
- Jane Nesmith, born 1835 in Wilkinson County, married Richard Martin on 27 August 1854 in Wilkinson County.
- Thomas Nesmith, born 1837 Wilkinson County.
- Wiley Nesmith, born 1841 Wilkinson County, married Martha (born 1842).
