Nephew of McIntosh County



James Nephew was born in 1750, the son of Peter Nephew (died 1788) of St. Andrews Parish. He married Mary Magdalene Gignilliat, the daughter of James and Charlotte (Pepper) Gignilliat, in 1787. James was a Revolutionary War Soldier, serving in the Liberty County regiment, first as a lieutenant, then as a captain, for which he was granted 250 acres of land. His plantation was called Manchester, near Valona, overlooking the passage and Sapelo Island to Cedar Point. He died in 1827 at Manchester, and was buried beside his first wife in the Gignilliat Family Cemetery on the Contentment Plantation (near Shellman Bluff). Issue:[1]
