Napier of Bibb County
After the Revolutionary War, Rene and Thomas Napier (cousins), received bounty grants in Washington County, Georgia for their services. Rene Napier was a son of Virginian, Renee Napier, a son of Booth and Sarah (LaForce) Napier of Goochland County, Virginia.
Issue of Rene Napier:
- Leroy Napier was born 1794 in Georgia. was a wealthy planter at Macon; served as State Senator in 1849; was a large contributor to the financing of the War Between the States. When the war was over, the bonds were worthless. He married Matila Louise Moultrie (born 1810 Georgia) , a granddaughter of General William Moultrie, hero during the American Revolution, and later governor of South Carolina for two terms. They had eight sons who served in the Confederacy. Issue:
- Nathan Campbell Napier, Captain, editor of the Walker County Newspaper about 1880, was born 22 December 1834., died 1902 in Walker County. He was educated at the University of Georgia; and was wounded in the battle of Perryville, Kentucky. He married Julia Louise Sharpe, born 2 February 1840, and died in 1907. Issue:
- George Moultrie Napier, Colonel, Attorney General of the State of Georgia. He was born in Walker County on the plantation, graduated from North Georgia Agricultural College, and in 1898 received a Masters Degree from the University of Georgia.
- Leroy Napier, Dr., succeeded his father as editor of the Walker County Messenger. He died in Vidalia.
