Moon Genealogy of Columbia County, Georgia

George Moon of Prince Edward County, Virginia, proven to be the father of Thomas (1759-1855) as follows:

Thomas Moon appointed Joseph Yarborough to recover the following property all my legacy left me by my father George Moon in Prince Edward County. Columbia County Deeds, Power of Attorney dated 23 April 1799.
Thomas Moon, born 1759 in Randolph County, North Carolina, died 1855 in Columbia County, Georgia. He was married to Sarah Brooks of Columbia County and by her had twelve children. The names of the other three I do not know. Possibly they were children of a former wife and did not come to Georgia. We will notice from this ancestor down to the present, that the Moons generally had a large family of boys, which accounts for so many Moons in the South.... Issue:

Jesse Moon, son of Thomas Moon and Sarah (Brooks) Moon, was born ca 1780. One reference says that he did at the age of 112 years. He married (1) Rachael Willingham and by her had issue: Thomas (married a Miss Davis); John Willingham (married 1st Harriet Cole on 1/31/1820 in Columbia County, 2nd, Prudence Baggett); Rachael (married Jack Griffin); and Mary (Polly) (married Burton Baggett on 11/27/1824 in Columbia County). Jesse Moon married (3) Polly Brown ca 1846 and removed to Randolph County, Alabama. After the loss of his second wife he made a grave mistake in the selection of his third wife.
