Moody of Paulding County

 

 

 

The Moody family of Paulding County come from a long line of Moody’s from Charles City

County,  Virginia, through North Carolina, thence to Georgia.

 

Thomas Moody died 1656 in Weyanoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia where his death was recorded on 3 October (Register). He married Ann Lawrence, a daughter of William Lawrence of Charles City County, Virginia.  They had two known sons, viz:

 

I.      Samuel Moody, was born 1652 in Weyanoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia, died after 1704.

 

II.     Robert Moody,  was born 1654 in Weyanoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia. He had a son, viz:

 

A.      Robert Moody, II, who died in Granville County, North Carolina, who married Ann ca 1722 in Prince George County, Virginia. Issue:[1]

 

1.       Robert Moody, III.

2.       John Moody, christened 1723 in Bristol Parish, Virginia, died after 1790 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He married Miss Jackson and had issue:

a.       William Moody, born ca 1740, died ca 1819, lived in Granville County, North Carolina. Issue:

i.         John Moody of Granville County, North Carolina,

 died ca 1829.

ii.      Thomas Moody, born ca 1764 in Granville County, North Carolina, died 13 February 1851 in Pike County, Georgia. Wife, Sarah. Issue:

(a)     Henry Moody, born 1790, of Chatham County, North Carolina.

(b)     Nancy Moody, born 1795, of Chatham County, North Carolina, died February of 1857.

(c)     John S. Moody, born 28 August 1798 of Chatham County, North Carolina, farmer, died 13 January 1886, buried in the Moody Place Cemetery, Yorkville, Georgia.   Wife, Elizabeth, born 1813 in South Carolina.  Issue:[2]

(1)  Ezekiel W. Moody, born 1833 Georgia, died 1915. Miller. He married on 25 December 1857 in Paulding County, Emaline

(Milly) Adair (born 2 February 1836 in Carroll County, died 26 August 1894 in Cobb County), a daughter of James Lee Adair and his wife, Caroline (Evans) Adair.  SEE Adair. Issue:[3]

 

(i)  Nathaniel Moody, born 1858 in Paulding County.

(ii) Elizabeth Moody, born 9 September 1858 in Paulding County, died 22 December 1952.

(iii)William Moody, born 1861 in Paulding County.

(iv) James Moody, born 1865 in Paulding County.

(v) Nathaniel G. Moody, born 3 February 1868 in Paulding County, died 4 August 1957.

(vi) Caroline Jane Moody, born 25 December 1870 in Paulding County.

(vii)Ezekiel W. Moody, born 1873 in Paulding County.

(viii)Martha Emiline Moody, born in 1877 Paulding County.

 

(d)    Gilley Moody, born 1800, died before July 1827 in Georgia.

(e)     William Moody, born 12 March 1805 in Twiggs County, Georgia, died 10 November 1887 Moseley’s Bluff, Union Pa., Louisiana, where buried.

(f)      Margaret Moody, born ca 1807 in Pike County, Georgia, died 1830/1831.

(g)     Risa Moody, born 1808 in Upson County, Georgia, died 1850-1851.

(h)    Thomas Moody was born 26 October 1811 in Georgia, died 29 October 1864 in Dallas, Paulding County, buried in the White Oak Cemetery. He was married on 24 May 1835 to Retency Hill Chapman (born 25 April 1820 Georgia, died 8 April 1884 in Paulding County, buried in the White Oak Cemetery), a daughter of Mrs. Deborah Chapman.  After Thomas died, Retency and her children moved in with John S. Moody (1870 Paulding County Census. Issue:

 

(1)  Mary P. Moody, born 1839 Paulding County. Living with John S. Moody on the 1870 Paulding County Census.

 

(2)   William T. Moody, born 1841 Paulding County.

 

(3)   Celesta (or Calista) Moody, born 17 August 1842 in Paulding County, died 9 March 1909, buried in Iredel, Bosque County, Texas. She married Joseph M. Cason on 24 December 1875 in Paulding County.

 

(4)  Leander Drucilla Moody, born 3 October 1843 in Paulding County, died 28 April 1903, buried in Iredell, Bosque County, Texas.

 

(5)  Elizabeth Moody, born 1844 Paulding County, died 1930 in Henegar, DeKalb County, Alabama, buried in the High Point Cemetery.

 

(6)  Green B. Moody (or Debring), born 1846 Paulding County, married Mary J. Cogburn on 13 January 1867 in Paulding County.

 

(7)     Ezekiel Moody, born 1848 in Paulding County, married Polly Ann Cole on 22 December 1867 in Paulding County.

 

(8)   Elizabeth Moody, born 1848 in Paulding County. Living with John S. Moody on the 1870 Paulding County Census.

 

(9)  Martha Jane Moody, born 1850 Paulding County.

 

(10)  Caroline Moody, born 1852 in Paulding County. Living with John S. Moody on the 1870 Paulding County Census.

(14)  Sophronia Moody, born 5 May 1857 Paulding County, died 10 February 1893, buried in the White Oak Cemetery in Paulding County. Living with John S. Moody on 1870 Paulding County Census.

 

(15)  Ellen Moody (or Emma) , born 1859 Paulding County married H. R. Coal on 30 December 1877 in Paulding County. Living with John S. Moody on the 1870 Paulding County Census.

 

(16)  Cassandra Moody, born 1862 in Paulding County.  Living with John S. Moody on the 1870 Paulding County Census.
