Milner of Wilkes County
John Milner was born in England 16 May 1746 and died in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1812. He was the son of John M. Milner, born 29 June 1720 in Ravenstonedale, Westmoreland, England who married a widow, Mrs. Pitt. During the American Revolution, he served as a captain under Generals Pickens and Sumpter in South Carolina and received bounty lands in Wilkes County for his services. He was married in 1765 to Elizabeth Godwin of Virginia (died 1812).[1] They were buried in the Milner Family Cemetery in Oglethorpe County. Issue:
- Willis Milner, born 1768, died 1790, married Sarah Ballard. He was a resident of Wilkes County, his LWT dated 13 December 1790, probated 3 October 1791. To his wife, Salley, he left bed, furniture, cow and calf and for her proper use the loan of the plantation during her remaining a virtuous widow. To first born son, Simeon, slaves (Rachel and Simeon). The land to be equally divided between sons, Simeon and John (minors), both to be educated to make good English scholars at the expense of the estate. Mentions his father, John Milner, and his brothers, Pitt and Benjamin Milner, along with wife, to be executors.[2]
- Pitt Milner, born 22 June 1769, died 21 July 1839, married Apsyllah Holmes.

- Benjamin Milner, born 1772, died November 1828.
- John Milner, born 17 October 1775, died 21 January 1841 in Pike County, buried in the Zebulon Cemetery in Barnesville. He married Eunice Callaway and had 12 children.
- Jonathan Milner, born 26 January 1778 in South Carolina, died 24 December 1844 in Oglethorpe County, buried in the Milner Family Cemetery..
