Mills of Washington County
John Mills migrated from North Carolina to Georgia when a young man and settled in Washington County; reared a family and died at the age of 84 years.
Stephen Mills, son of John Mills, was born 1799 in Washington County and died there on 9/7/1873. He was married to Mary Gladin (1802-7/3/1880). Issue:[1]

- John F. Mills, born 1827 in Washington County, died before 1885.
- Stephen B. Mills, physician, was born 11/24/1829 in Washington County. He was a doctor in Dwight, Georgia,. When Sherman marched through Georgia his mills were burned and his stock confiscated and his plantation left in ruins. He served as captain of the local militia and was the father of ten children. He graduated from the college of Augusta in 1858; enlisted in Co. C, 49th Georgia Regiment as a private and fought in Virginia. His farm consisted of 1200 acres of land. He was married on 7/21/1864 to Mattie Lee, daughter of Green and Charity (Bateman) Mills by whom he had no children. She was the granddaughter of Jesse Mills from North Carolina who settled in Washington County and died in Crawford County. I
