HEZEKIAH McKINNEY



HEZEKIAH McKINNEY b. ca 1800 in Georgia, m. 1st, Martha, 2nd, Nancy Rebecca. He came to Bibb Co., Ga. about 1829, with brothers, Caleb (m. 5/1829 Betsy Smith), Joseph and Benjamin (m. 9/1832 Cynthia Baker), all settling in Macon. They probably had a sister, Malinda, who m. 1830 Caleb Smith in Bibb Co. 411 thought to he the descendants of Revolutionary War Soldier, Thomas McKinney, a Private from South Carolina, placed on the Georgia Pension Rolls of 1813. The family lived on a farm near Macon, 143 acres, but other tracts consisted of 172-1/2 and 122-1/2 acres. At his death in 1881, Hezekiah was specializing in cotton, field peas, corn, and a few hogs. Issue:
  1. CHARITY McKINNEY b. 1829.
  2. ARCHIBALD McKINNEY b. 1832.
  3. CALEB McKINNEY b. 1835, Confederate Soldier, enlisted Oct. of 1862 in Macon, Ga., Co. H., 12th 3d. Regt. His Company fought in Vienna and surrendered there at end of war. Before Lee's surrender, however, Caleb was captured by the enemy in 1864 and sent to Elmira, New York where be remained a prisoner until sfter the war was over. He was not paroled until .June 16, 1865, reaching home some 12 days later. Caleb m. 1st, 6/10/1858, Miss Mabulda Raley, and 2nd, 1872, Harriett J. Hardy. Caleb's application of pension was made in 1904; he was allotted $60 per year until 12/18/1918, the year of his death.
