McElroy of Bibb County

William John McElroy was born 22 Oct 1824 in Albany, Georgia, a son of Jonathan McElroy, born in Green County, New York. However, the 1880 Gwinnett County Census denotes that he was born in Georgia and that his parents were also born in Georgia; his wife was listed as Mary, age 48. He was married to Easter Freeney on 27 Dec 1849 in Bibb County. He was an arms manufacturer in Macon where he founded William J. McElroy & Company. They had two infant children who were buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon in 1859. Esther died 30 Oct 1881 and William J. died 25 June 1888.
