McCleskey of Hall County, Georgia
The McCleskeys number among those Scotch-Irish Presbyterians from Ulster, Ireland who came to America seeking religious liberty. They settled first in Pennsylvania but by 1740 James McCleskey along with several thousand others removed to Augusta County, Virginia. James was born 1751 in Pennsylvania and was married to Isabella Rhea. He served in the Revolutionoary War as a private and wagoner in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
The only known son is David Henderson McCleskey who was born 2 Aug 1783 in Abbeville County, South Carolina and died on 22 Nov 1879 in Marshall County, Alabama where he had removed from Hall County, Georgia in 1852. He was first married to Martha J. Jarrett who died 2 May 1853 in Blount County, Alabama. Second, he married Rebecca Kent or Kemp on 20 Oct 1855 in Funtersville, Alabama. They were buried at the Bristis Cove Church in Marshall County, Alabama. He had ten children. (see folder)
