Marshall of Edgefield County, South Carolina and Columbia County, Georgia



Rev. Joseph Marshall served in the American Revolution. He first resided in Edgefield County, South Carolina before settling in Richmond County, Georgia. His LWT dated 11/28/1783, probated 11/23/1784. "I, Daniel Marshall, a minister of the gospel..." Wife, Martha Stearns. He left 50 acres of land on Augusta Road and Kiokee Creek as evidenced by a Quit Claim Deed dated 8/14/1796, when the heirs signed a release, viz: Abraham, Daniel, John, Levi, Solomn, Joseph, Moses and Zachariah. Children: Eunice, Mary, Daniel, Abraham, John, Zaccheus, Levi, Moses, Solomon and Joseph.

Joseph Marshall, Revolutionary Soldier, son of Rev. Daniel Marshall (Revolutionary War Soldier of Edgefield County, South Carolina), died in Columbia County, Georgia, his LWT dated 9/16/1817, probated 4/24/1819. Wife: Ann. He named his brother, Rev. Abraham Marshall, and left a legacy to the Kiokee Baptist Church. Further evidence of the ties to the Marshalls exist in the following deed in Edgefield County Deed Book 4, pp. 214, 220.

5/1/1790. Daniel Marshall and Abraham Marshall, planters of Richmond County, Georgia to John Grey, planter of Edgefield County, South Carolina, for 140 pounds, sold 400 acres of land, being part of 500 acres granted to Rev. Daniel Marshall on 7/12/1771 and a Memorial of 8/1/1771, being in St. Paul's Parish on Marshall s Creek, a branch of Hornes Creek of Stevens Creek in Colleton County then called, but now Edgefield, bounded North by vacant land and THomas Hughs and John Conn, East by Thomas Hughes, John Conn and David Locker, South by John Varner, Southwest by Samuel Walker, and Northwest by Allen Aderson at the time of the original survey. Said 400 acres being whereon the said John Gray now resides.

  4. Joseph Marshall, Jr. The LWT of Joseph Marshall Jr. dated 8/21/1817, probated 11/17/1817 in Columbia County named wife, Sarah and children: Sarah Frances and Peter. Executors: Wife, Sarah, Dr. Nathan Crawford and Levi Marshall (when he comes of age).
  5. Daniel Marshall. In 1794, Daniel Marshall was a Collector of Taxes and as a sresult on 12/1/1795 he sold at auction in Columbia County 100 acres on Uchee Creek. John Marshall, Sr. was the highest bidder.
