Wheeler Mangum

C. WHEELER MANGUM was born 10/26/1845 in Decatur, Georgia and resided in Atlanta all of his life with the exception of about seven years. He was probably a son of William Mangum who died 1848 in DeKalb County and named all his children and a brother to William Mangum who died in 1864 during the War Between the States. Wheeler was a widely known and experienced railroad man, having held practically every position on a railroad. Mangum served in the war as a Confederate, having enlisted in the First Georgia Regiment at the outbreak of the war. After serving nine or ten months, he was detailed to do railroad work for the Confederacy, because of his experience. He married Mattie, born 1843 in Georgia. In 1880 he was a railroad worker and in 1909 was Sheriff of Fulton County. Children:
  1. Willie Mangum, born 1870 Atlanta, Georgia
  2. Mattie Mangum, born 1872 Atlanta, Georgia.
  3. Charlie Mangum, born 1874 Atlanta, Georgia
  4. Wiley Mangum, born 1877 Atlanta, Georgia
