Long of Elbert and Madison Counties
Samuel Long, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born 1753 in Ireland. He emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1762, served in the Pennsylvania Army, was a Captain under Marquis de LaFayette; was at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He removed to Madison County, Georgia in 1792. His LWT dated 3 July 1822, probated 2 September 1822 in Madison County. Wife, Ann.

- James Long, born 1781 in Pennsylvania married Elizabeth Ware on 8 December 1813 in Madison County. Issue:
- Crawford W. Long, Dr. (1815-1876) married in 1842 Mary Caroline Swain, daughter of George Swain. Statue was erected in the "Statuary Hall of Fame" at the National Capitol, Washington, D. C. of Dr. Crawford W. Long as the discoverer of anesthesia.
- Samuel Long, Jr., was born 1795 Georgia, farmer.
- Jane Long married Mr. Woods.
- Thomas Long was born 1786 in Pennsylvania, farmer. Wife, Isabella, born 1795 Georgia. Issue:
- Elizabeth Long, born 1815 Georgia.
- Anna Long, born 1817 Georgia.
- Henry Long, born 1835 Madison County.
- Sarah H. Long, born 1837 Madison County married John M. Burns on 3 July 1856 in Madison County.

Book C, page 137. 10 April 1791. Francis Powers and his wife, Elizabeth, deed to Samuel Long of Elbert County, for 50 pounds, 220 acres on Fork Creek on the Broad River, granted to said Powers on 14 August 1786
Book J, page 114. 16 February 1805. Malcom Curry of Elbert County to Thomas Long for $200, 83-1/2 acres on Fork Creek, being part of 270 acres granted to Francis Powers on 14 August 1786, adjoining Gunnells and Miller.
