Nicholas Long, Sr. of Halifax County, North Carolina, was a son of Samuel Long who settled in Pennsylvania and who made several voyages to Pennsylvania with William Penn. Nicholas settled near Roxboro, North Carolina. Nicholas was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. He lived at Quank Farm, and was visited by George Washington several times. The LWT of Nicholas Long, Sr. was probated in Halifax County, North Carolina in 1798 and named the following heirs: Nicholas, Lunsford, Richard H., J. J., Lemuel, McKenzie, George W., Martha E. and Mary Long. Issue:

- William Long migrated to Old Tryon County, North Carolina, settling on Cane Creek near the present community of Westminster. He fought the Indians on Cane Creek, and received a Land Grant from the King of England for his services. He deeded 7 acres for the establishment of the Brittain Presbyterian Church. He died in 1830. Issue:
- William Long. 12/22/1769-9/8/1853, buried in the Old Brittain Presbyterian Church, 18 miles from Marion (now McDowell County), North Carolina.
