Lockett of Virginia and Warren Counties



Thomas Lockett died in Henrico County, Virginia on 27 March 1686. He married Margaret Osborne in 1667. She was born 3 July 1708 in Henrico County, a daughter of Thomas Osborne. Known issue: Thomas, Elizabeth, Susan, Benjamin, James and Mary.

Thomas Lockett, Jr. was a resident of Goochland County, Virginia. They had three known sons: Thomas, Joel and Gideon.

Thomas Lockett (son of the above Thomas) died ca 1774/1775 in Goochland County. He was married to Elizabeth Judith Townes. They had a son, David Lockett (ca1730-ca 1796) who came to Georgia.

David Lockett, Revolutionary War Soldier, received bounty lands in Warren County, Georgia for his service. He was married to Sally Luck Winfrey. His LWT dated 7 January 1796, probated 12 March 1796 in Warren County directed that his estate be kept together for the use of his wife the children under age. He had a tobacco crop in progress and directed that when the crop was sold, that the money was to be "put at interest." Issue:

Solomon Lockett. His LWT was probated on 24 October 1836 in Warren County. Wife, Patsey. He named 14 negroes and the Holomon tract (on which I live). 400 acres purchased from Mrs. Right. Granddaughter: Rebecca A. Lockett. The LWT of Martha (Patsy) Lockett, Monroe County, dated 2 August 1848, probated 15 January 1849, named children: Uriah T., Cynthia Chapman. Issue:
  1. Joseph L. Lockett, born 1841 in Warren County.
  2. John C. Lockett, born 1845 in Warren County.
  3. Sarah T. Lockett, born 1848 in Warren County.
Solomon Lockett, born 22 March 1821 in Warren County died 18 October 1889 in Cleburne County, Texas. He married (1) Rebecca Anne Swain and (2) Mary Susan Herring. Reuben Winfrey Lockett, born 22 September 1818 in Warren County, died ca 1877 in Johnson County, Texas. Abner Lockett died 1828 in Monroe County, Georgia. His LWT dated July 1827, probated 7 January 1828, Monroe County Wills. Wife, Patsy. Issue:

  4. Hugh Lockett married Sarah Woodard on 3 February 1825 in Monroe County.
  5. James Lockett, his LWT dated 1 September 1842, probated 6 February 1843, Jones County. Wife: Hetty. To: Sarah Ann Eliza, eldest daughter of William Darden, deceased; Ufrasa and Elizabeth, Children of Abner Darden; Ephraim W. Russell; Sarah Lockett Booker; Amos Alsabrook Booker, Children of Wiley Booker. Executors: Thomas S. Humphries, Bradford T. Chapman. Witnesses: Robert V. Hardeman, Joseph Winship, Horatio Dowen. Issue: Solomon Humphries Lockett.

4 March 1794, Solomon Lockett of Warren County deeded to Stephen Darden for 100 pounds, land on William s Creek adjoining lands of Jacob Darden, John Campbell, Robert Carey, Robert Hill. Warren County Deed Book A, pp. 521-522.
