Littlefield of Rhode Island, Massachusetts

          and Screven County, Georgia

 

 

This esteemed family to America begins with Anthony Littlefield who was christened on 7 October 1621 in Titchfield, County Hants, Hampshire, England, and died on 11 December 1661 in Wells, York County, Maine.  He was married in 1652 in York County, Maine to Mary Page (christened on 24 December 1641 in London, Middlesex County, England, died in Maine. They had four known children, viz: Samuel, James, Edmund and Caleb.

 

Caleb Littlefield was born 4 September 1659 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts and died 1741 on Block Island, New Port County, Rhode Island.   His wife, Lydia.  Known Issue:

 

Caleb Littlefield, born July 1692 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, died 18 December 1769 in New Shoreham, Rhode Island.  He was married to Mercy Mott (born 1695, died 3 April 1761) in 1714, a daughter of John Mott.  These families were of Quaker religious origin.  Issue:[1]

 

I.                   Mercy Littlefield, born ca 1715.

 

II.                Andra Littlefield, born ca 1716.

 

III.             John Littlefield, born 1 March 1717, died 13 June 1795.  He was married to Phoebe Ray in August of 1751, New Shoreham, Newport, Rhode Island. Phoebe was born 10 September 1733 and died 13 March 1780.  Issue:

 

A.     Lt. Simon Ray Littlefield, born 19 December 1751, died 31 March 1780.

 

B.     Capt. William Littlefield, born 8 December 1753, died 1 November 1822, married on 10 March 1785, Elizabeth Brinley. Issue:

 

1.      Francis Littlefield, born 7 December 1785, died 3 December 1787.

2.      Edward Brinley Littlefield, born 1 February 1787. He married Cornelia Lott Greene Skipworth.

3.      Nathaniel Greene Littlefield, born 11 November 1789.

4.      William Littlefield, born 26 March 1792.  He married Martha Fowler on 3 October 1825.

5.      John Littlefield, born 6 July 1800. He married in 1823, Catherine L. Nightingale (1801-1833).

 

C.     Catherine Littlefield, born 17 February 1755, died 2 September 1814.  She married (1) on 20 July 1774, Major-General Nathaniel Greene and (2) on 29 June 1796, Phineas Miller. See Greene.

 

D.    Phoebe Littlefield, born 29 January 1757, married John Sands.

 

E.     Nancy Littlefield, born 26 May 1760.

 

IV.              Lydia Littlefield, born 6 July 1722, died after 1766.

 

V.                 Tabitha Littlefield, born 4 May 1724.
