Leverett of Wilkes County
The quest was to locate the parents of Wiley Levrett, born 1/18/1821 in DeKalb Co. The 1820 Georgia Census of Putnam County lists: Abraham, Jeremiah, Thomas and Celia
1830 Putnam Co. Census:
Thomas Leverett male 15-20, male 70-80, female 10-15, female 60-70
Jeremiah Leverett male under 5, 2 males 5-10 (Wiley fits here), male 30-40, 2 females under 5, female 20-30
Thomas Leverett removed to Troup County where he died in 1834. There is no evidence in any Georgia records of Jeremiah Leverett (that I can find) after 1840.
Thomas Leverett, Revolutionary War Soldier, Georgia Line, was a resident of Wilkes Co. at the time of his enlistment, was born 5/12/1755. His first wife, Marian, was born 3/25/1772. The LWT of Thomas Leverett dated 8/7/1833, Troup Co. Will Book A, page 22. Executors: wife: Mary. Son; Gideon, and Henry Kellam. Legatees: Wife, Mary Leverett. Sons: Jeremiah, Gideon, Abraham, Thomas (deceased), Anna, Catherine, Mariah, Merella, Almedy, Malitta, Mary Elizabeth. Daughter-in-law: Jane Johnson (widow of Thomas). Grandchildren : Hiram Leverett, Lucretia Leverett (orphans of Thomas). Slaves: Lucy, Abraham, Clark, Poll, Hannah, Orit, Jack, Aaron, Israel, Kiz, Cagte, Duff, Dick, Comedore, Suck, Ann, Belley, Mariah. Probated: 7/8/1834. Return or 12/25/1837 (Troup Co. Returns B, page 165. Receipts include money received from the US government on 1/1/1837 for Revolutionary War claims. Return Book C, page 331, 2/11/1841. Legatees: Mary Ann, wife of Green W. Carlisle, Abraham Leverett, Almeda, wife of Charles Bussey, Milletta, wife of Dresile E. Pace, Maria Walker, formerly Maria Leverett, Jesse Leverett, Anna, wife of Thomas Paschal, Gideon Leverett. The executor, Gideon Leverett, stated that he was prepared to pay the legatees on 12/2/1837 but that they were a great distance and he paid them as soon as he was able to. Ref:Pension application of widow, Mrs. Mary Leverett #W4264. Mrs. Elizabeth Crawford gave her deposition in 1846 stating that Thomas Leverett was married first to her aunt, and that secondly, he married Miss Mary G. Griffin on 7/3/1789 in Wilkes Co. Mary was born 3/25/1772 and when she married was living with her mother and step-father in Wilkes Co. After they were married, they resided in Wilkes Co. for thirty years before removing to Putnam Co, finally to Troup County where he died on 6/8/1834. The widow applied for pension in Troup Co. on 1/13/1845 and again in 1846 while she was living with her son, Gideon Leverett. Bible Records included with the pension.

- Wiley Leverett, born 1/18/1821 in DeKalb Co., listed on 1850 Putnam Co. Census, died 10/25/1905 in Houston Co. where he removed to in 1851. Wife, Elizabeth, born 1822 in Alabama. Second wife, Mary B., born 6/5/1824, died 9/21/1854, buried Haynesville First Baptist Church Cemetery, Houston Co. Residents of Putnam Co. in 1850. Issue: He was married 3 times and had 18 children. His last wife died in Houston Co. on 9/21/1884, the obituary reading that she left a husband, two daughters and 7 sons.

6. Thomas Leverett, born 5/11/1797, married Lucresa Bussey on 2/15/1820 in Putnam Co. He estate was administered on 5/21/1831, filed in Troup Co. Returns Book A, page 60 (from Upson Co.). Executor: James W. Cooper. Gideon Leverett was guardian of his orphans 1830-1836. Lucretia J. named as an orphan on the 1837 return. Hiram J. named as orphan in 1832 and 1838 Return.

8. Myrtilla (Matilda) Leverett, born 3/1/1803, married 2/19/1819 married Thomas Black in Putnam Co. They were residents of Tallapoosa County,m Alabama in 1846
9. Almeda Leverett, born 1/22/1806, married 1/1/1822 in Putnam Co., Charles Bussey.
10. Milita (MaryE,) Leverett, born May 1806, married 7/19/1833 Green W. Carlisle
11. Abraham Leverett, born 3/18/1811, married 10/9/1834 Emily R. Dozier.
