Key of Virginia & Franklin County

Martin Key, the son of John Key of New Kent County, Virginia, was born 1670, and died 1740 in New Kent County, Virginia. He had two known children, viz: Martin Key of King and Queen County, Virginia who died in May of 1757 in Louisa County, Virginia, and John Key, Sr., born 1696, died 1764 in Albemarle County, Virginia. John Key, Sr. married Martha Tandy of South Farnham Parish, Essex County, Virginia, a daughter of Henry Tandy, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla. Their known children were: Martin, Mary, Henry, George, John, Jr., and Henry.

John Key, Jr. was born 1731 and was a resident of Albemarle County, Virginia. He died 1826 in Bedford, Franklin County, Virginia. He was married to Agness Witt on 27 December 1750 in Albemarle County, a daughter of William Witt. Their known children were: Elizabeth, Barbary, Judith, Winnie Candle, George, Joseph, William and John Walter Key.

John Walter Key, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born, presumably in Albemarle County, and died 1828 in Franklin County. He married Virginia (Gennie) Wade. Issue:[1]

Pierce Key, born 1785 in Virginia, farmer. Wife, Sarah Hicks, born 1786 in North Carolina. Issue:
1. Pierce Columbus Key, born 1824 Georgia, farmer. He married Elizabeth H. Ash ( born 1830 Georgia) on 29 November 1849 in Franklin County. The LWT of Pierce C. Key dated 25 May 1864 in Banks County named his wife, Elizabeth Hunter and "my children."
2. William J. Key, born 1829 Georgia. He married (1) Harriett T. Neal on 23 September 1856 in Franklin County, and (2) Catharine, born 1834 in Georgia. Issue:
  1. Willy Key (daughter), born 1862 Georgia.
  2. James Key, born 1865 in Georgia.
  3. Mary Key, born 1867 in Georgia.
  4. Charley Key, born 1869 in Brumbleton, Georgia.
  5. Pierce Key, born 1871 in Brumbleton, Georgia.
  6. Jenny Key, born 1874 in Brumbleton, Georgia.
3. Baron Lafayette Key, born 10 April 1831 in Franklin County, Georgia, died 29 March 1890. He married Martha Miller Wylie (born 1842 in South Carolina) in Banks County in 1857. They removed to Chester, Arkansas where he had a small farm in 1880. Issue:
1. Sarah Key, born 1862 in Franklin County.
2. Bettie Key, born 1869 in Franklin County.
3. Pierce Key, born 1872 in Dallas County, Arkansas.
4. William J. Key, born 1877 in Dallas County, Arkansas.
Tolbert Key, born 1792 in Franklin County, Georgia, died in 1868. He married (1) Elizabeth Embry on 28 January 1816 in Jackson County, (2) Effie Burgess on 21 December 1834, and (3) Mary Wooten on 1 May 1850.
