HENRY JEMISON



HENRY JEMISON was a large slaveholder in Bibb Co., Georgia. At his death, early in 1823, he owned 19 slaves. His LWT dated 3/19/1822, probated 1/7/1823, Baldwin Co., Ga., but probated in Monroe Co., Ga. Wife: Susannah, the sister of Tomlinson Fort. We made certain divisions of the slaves in his LWT and to his wife, Susanna went Rschel and her three children (Ned, Joshua and Polly). He owned 41 head of cattle and 35 hogs, two work steers. Susanna owned three spinning wneels and one loom. Henry owned 101-1/2 acres in Wilkinson Co. (now Twiggs Co.); 202-1/2 acres in the 13th District of Monroe Co. (now Bibb Co.) 405 acres and 202-1/2 acres respectively in the latter district. Four of his daughers we re attending Wesleyan Female College in 18 39 , the first year of it's operation, receiving the first college education being offered to women in Georgia. Issue:

  3. SARAH SOPHIA JEMISON, in the Second Class at Wesleyan.
  4. FRANCES JEMISON, in the Second Class at Wesleyan.
  5. SUSANNAH MARGARET JEMISON.
  6. ROBERT WILLIAM JEMISON m. 11/2/1841 in Baldwin Co., Ga. Sarah Stubbs.
