Irwin of Burke County
Hugh Irwin was born 1727 in Ireland, migrated to America, first settling in North Carolina, thence removed to Georgia in 1752. He died in Burke County in 1805. He was a patriot during the American Revolution, for wich he received bounty grants on 20 August 1781. He married Martha Alexander. Issue:
- Jared Irwin was born 1755 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and migrated to Georgia when about seven years of age. For many years, his family resided on the Indian frontier. He became famous as a General during the Revolutionary War, and at the latter part was actively employed in skirmishing warfare against the Tories and the Indians. At the close of the war he was chosen a delegate to the Georgia Legislature of 1784. Once served as a Governor, and was President of the Senate. He had a son and three daughters. He died at Union Hill, in Washington County, on 1 March 1818. Issue:

- John Lawson Irwin was born in Mecklinburg County, North Carolina on 29 August 1755, died 1 January 1822. He was one of the first settlers to Washington County, Georgia. He served under his brother, General Jared Irwin, during the American Revolution, and was in command during the sieges of Savannah and Augusta. He also fought in the battles of Camden, South Carolina, Briar Creek, Georgia, and Black Swamp, South Carolina. He married Rebecca Sessions, born 30 March 1733, died 8 June 1839, in 1790. Issue:
- Alexander Irwin (1792-1843) married in 1824 Margaret Moore Lawson (1798-1853), daughter of Andrew Thompson Lawson (born 1760 Georgia, died 1822 Augusta, Revolutionary War Soldier), and his wife, Mary Moore Barry, the daughter of Andrew Barry (born 1746 Pennsylvania, died 1811 South Carolina, Revolutionary War Soldier) and his wife, Margaret Moore.
