Holt of Bibb County
Tarpley Holt was born 1777, a native of Halifax County, Virginia, died 26 May 1840 in Bibb County. His LWT dated 29 November 1839, probated 7 September 1840 in Bibb County. He married Eliza (Betsy) Lane Flewellen, born 1792, died 4 September 1849 Bibb County. They are buried in the Flewellen-Holt Cemetery. Issue:
- Martha S. Holt.
- Abner Flewellen Holt, married Eliza. Issue: Phillip Thurmond Holt, born 20 August 1840, died 30 April 1842, buried Flewellen-Holt Cemetery.
- William Simon Holt.
- Daughter married John B. Ross.
- Margaret B. Holt married Timothy M. Furlow on 3 November 1839 in Bibb County.
- Tarpley Lafayette Holt was born 1805 in Georgia m. Nancy (b. 1815 Ga.) In 1813 he lived In Putnam Co., Ga. where he owned two tracts of land, 101-1/4 acres each. Then he removed to Bibb Co., Ga. He was present in the home of John Keener, with others, in 1823, at the first meeting of the Superior Court of Bibb Co., Ga. In 1835, he was a resident of Capt. PLttman's District. In 1853, he owned some 10 slaves. By 1886, the year of his death, he had extended his plantation to 1767 acres. He practiced law for a number of pears in Macon, having an extensive library which contained essential law books of the day, such as Georgia Reports, Russell on Crime, Jarman on Wills, Parsons on Contracts, Bishop on Criminal Law, Greenleaf on Evidence and Bishop on Marriage and Divorce; also Laws of Georgia, 1820-1829. (From inventory of his estate). He had a sister, Sarah M. Holt (in the Junior Class), who was one of the first students to attend Wesleyan Female College at its opening in 1839. Issue:
