HITT of Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia
Peter Hitt emigrated from England in 1720 to Fauquier County, Virginia. Issue:
John Hitt, born in Fauquier County, Virginia, removed to South Carolina after the American Revolution. He served as an officer in a Virginia Regiment. He died in Fauquier County in 1772, leaving a Last Will and Testament. Issue:

- Charles B. Hitt was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina in 1800. He removed to Augusta, Georgia, where he was a merchant, and land speculator. In April of 1861 he enlisted as a private in the Oglethorpe Infantry, being assigned to the First Georgia Regiment (Company I). He was promoted to Assistant Surgeon and detailed for duty to the hospital in Staunton, Virginia, where he remained until March 2, 1862. After that, he enlisted as a private in the 12th Georgia Battalion of Ifantry, going to Richmond, Virginia. He received a diploma from the Richmond Medical College. He was next made Assistant Surgeon to the Palmetto Sharpshooters, Jenkins' Brigade, and was sent to Camp Winder, near Richmond, then to southwestern Virginia. After the war, Dr. Hitt practiced medicine in Augusta. In 1868 he removed to Lee County, returning two years later to Augusta, where he died in 1888. He first married Miss Susan A. Goodman (born 1816 in North Carolina) on February 23, 1822. He married secondly, in Leesburg, Georgia in 1874 to Miss Lucy M., daughter of Joseph Woolfolk, a native of Georgia. Issue:
