HILL of Jasper County



Green B. Hill b. ca 1775 in Virginia or Maryland m. Martha Ivey, daughter of Lott Ivey and Winifred ca 1795. He died ca 1858 in Randolph Co., Alabama, buried at Gold Ridge Cemetery, Graham, Randolph Co., Alabama. There is evidence that Green B. Hill and Martha Ivey were in the Granville District of North Carolina before or near the time they were married. Additional evidence places them for a short while in Surry Co., North Carolina. They resided in Pendleton District, South Carolina before 1800; lived in Franklin Co., GA ca 1805, lived in old Randolph Co., GA in 1812.

Green B. Hill began his military service on August 7, 1814 while living in Jasper Co., GA. He signed up for six months service in the Creek War against the Creek Indians as a drummer in Capt. Leonard Worthy's Co., Georgia Militia, being discharged at Fort Hawkins for disability, which ended his military service on November 6, 1814.

Then, ca 1830 they resided in Fayette Co., GA, becoming members of the Bethsaida Baptist Church on September 14, 1848. Martha, his wife, died ca 1850 in Fayette Co. Green B. Hill and his daughter, Mary A. Hill, resigned their membership in the Bethsaida Baptist Church and removed to Randolph Co., Alabama.

For previous military service, he was issued bounty land in Randolph Co., Alabama on December 23, 1854. He applied for bounty land again on March 31, 1855 as a result of the Federal Land Act, which he sold very shortly thereafter.

His son, Martin Hill, established himself as a Baptist Minister in Randolph Co.
