Hemphill of York County, South Carolina
Robert Hemphill came to America about 1695 from Loch Nee, scotland, a medical missionary who escaped Christian
persecution. He stayed in America for three years before returning to Scotland where he retrieved the faily bible which
he had buried before hand. The bible had wooden covers with beaten brass corners, laced together with rawhide strips.
It was published in 1648. When he returned to America, he brought with him several freedom seekers.
