Haygood of Monroe County
Benjamin Haywood, Sr., Revolutionary War Soldier, was born 1747 in Virginia or North Carolina, died 1838 Monroe County, buried Haygood Family Cemetery. He enlisted into the Revolutionary War from Chatham County, North Carolina as a private (1775) and served under Gen. Folsum throughout the war; first in Capt. George Herndons North Carolina Company and afterwards in Capt. Wilcoxs North Caroline Company. He married Mary Stewart (born 1750 in North Carolina), daughter of James Stewart (Revolutionary War Soldier of North Carolina, and his wife, Elizabeth) according to tombstone. Mary was listed as a widow on the 1850 Monroe County Census, aged 94. Issue:
- Nancy Haygood, born 2 January 1781, died 20 November 1886 Monroe County, married Rev. John Thompson (born 2 January 1781, died 20 November 1866). They are buried in the Haygood Family Cemetery.
- Frances Haygood, born 1792, died 1883 Monroe County, buried Haygood Cemetery, married Levi Stroud, Sr. Issue:
A. Levi Stroud, Jr., born 1829, died 25 August 1862, during the Civil War. He married Sarah Adams. Buried Haygood Family Cemetery.
- Benjamin Haygood, Jr. was born18 April 1800 Georgia, died 20 July 1887 in Monroe County. He married Frances Middlebrooks Johnston (born 25 October 1800, died 27 January 1884), buried Haygood-Stroud-Thompson-Zellner Cemetery in Monroe County. Issue:
- Bernice A. Haygood, born 26 December 1824, died 9 July 1869, buried Haygood Family Cemetery. She married Dr. Isham B. Fuller (his first wife).
- Thomas M. Haygood, born 28 February 1826, died 28 May 1879, married Alley Frances Huguley (born 4 October 1830), buried Haygood Family Cemetery.
- John Madison Haygood, born 1831 Monroe County married (1) Mrs. Sarah Trice (born 26 April 1841, died 26 October 1874), buried Haygood Family Cemetery.
- Elizabeth Haygood, born 1835 Monroe County.
