Hatchett of Virginia; Harris & Oglethorpe Counties

The first known member of the family was Thomas Hatchett of Jamestown, Virginia. His son, John Hatchett died 1747 in Chesterfield County, Virginia, the date of his LWT (31 May 1747, Henrico County). He married Elizabeth Bass, a daughter of William and Hester Bass. From this union came Edward Hatchett who died 4 May 1789 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, the date of his LWT.[1] Edward Hatchett married Agness Dodd and had issue: William Hatchett, who died 28 March 1826 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. William Hatchett married Jane Roberts in Lunenburg County, Virginia on 3 December 1787. Jane died 1834 in Oglethorpe County. Issue:

John Beasley Hatchett, born 28 October 1794 in Harris County, died 23 August 1847. His LWT dated 17 August 1847, probated 6 September 1847 in Harris County. His sons were heirs and executors, viz: William, Patrick and James. Wife Eliza. Mentioned a brother (not named). Issue:

• William Hatchett, born 1797 Georgia, farmer. He married Mary Biggers(born 1800 Georgia) on 13 December 1823 in Oglethorpe County. Issue:

  2. Emily F. Hatchett, born 1838 Georgia.
  3. Pinckney G. Hatchett, born 1839 Georgia.
  4. Cornelia Hatchett, born 1842 Harris County.
