John Harvie was born in Gargunnock, Sterlingshire, Scotland and died on 13 Oct 1730 in Richmond, Virginia. He was married to Margaret Kay. Margaret was born in Gargunnock, Sterlingshire, Scotland.

John Harvie, son of John and Margaret (above), was born on 20 Dec 1706 in Gargunnock, Sterlingshire, Scotland. He died on 3 Dec 1767 in Belmont, Virginia. John married Martha Gaines, the daughter of Daniel and Mary Gaines on 10 Jan 1741/1742. Martha was born on 11 Nov 1719 in Richmond, Virginia. During the Revolution (1780), widow Harvie removed with most of her children to settle on the Broad River in Wilkes County. She died on 7 Oct 1802 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. The Last Will and Testament of Martha was dated 9/25/1801, probated 2/1/1802 and was quite informative upon naming heirs. Children: William, Martha and Peggy Harvie; Betsy Jordan. Grandchildren: Martha G. Harvie, wife of William; Janette; Martha G. Bradley; Lucy P. Moore; Daniel Harvie; Mary, Margaret and Juliette. To Massy Powers she bequeathed land in Jackson County. Friends, Thomas Meriwether and James Davenport were trustees for her daughter, Martha Moore. She mentioned land from the Last Will and Testament of her late husband, John Harvie. To daughter, Martha's children, Martha's portion to go to her children except Martha G. Jordan and William Moore. Grandchildren: Peggy and Betsy Jordan; Frankey Harvie; Peggy and Betsy Moore; Martha Guirey; Polly Marks, daughter of my grandson, John H Marks.

  1. John Harvie, Jr. (1742-1807). He married Margaret Jones and remained in Virginia.
  2. Richard Harvie was born in 1743 in Albemarle County, Virginia., and died 1800. His Last Will and Testament was headed Albemarle County, Virginia, dated 5/8/1783, probated 6/25/1800. "To my mother." My schoolmaster, Alexander McCaul of Glasgow. Nephew: Daniel Gaines Moore when of age. To the children of my brothers, John Daniel and William Harvie and sisters, Mary Meriwether, Margaret Davenport, Martha Moore, Elizabeth Marks and Jennett Jordan.
  3. Martha Harvie was born in 1745 in Albemarle County, Virginia married John Moore.
  4. Mary Hargie was born on 12 Sep 1745.
  5. Mary Harvie married David Meriwether,Revolutionary War Soldier, a son of Thomas Meriwether and his wife, Elizabeth Thornton. David was born on 2 Sep 1739.
  6. Elizabeth Harvie was born 11/24/1754 in Albemarle Co., Virginia, and died 1793 in Oglethorpe Co. She married James Marks (8/24/1745-1816), Revolutionary War Soldier the son of Hastings Marks (and Mary) on 12/24/1771..
  7. William Harvie, Revolutionary War Soldier, married Judy Cosby. His Last Will and Testament dated 4/6/1813, probated 1/1814 in Clarke County, Georgia, named wife, Judy and daughters: Martha (lame); Lucy (in place of legacy left by her grandfather, Charles Cosby); Jeannette; and Mary. Executors were: Thomas and James Meriwether..

  9. Jennette Harvie married Reuben Jordan.
