Harris of Twiggs County



Simeon Lawrence Harris was born ca 1819 in Georgia and died ca 1856 in Twiggs County, Georgia. He was married to Amanda Fitzwallen Holland, born ca 1831, died after in 1880 in Red River Parish, Louisiana. Twiggs County, Georgia records have burned in their entirety. Simeon Harris had a brother, Samuel B. Harris, who died on 7/1899 in Red River Parish, Louisiana, and who married the sister of Amanda Holland, Catherine Frances Holland. Another brother was Amos Harris who died in Texas. Another brother was Allen Harris, born 1818 Georgia, died 11/1854 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, married Mary Baker Lawson, daughter of Roger Lawson and Lucy Parotte of Twiggs County. Proof of the relationship of these brothers is found in the succession record of Winifred Harris Wood, widow of Martin Wood, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, wherein the estate papers record that the four Harris brothers are her oephews and heirs. Issue:
  1. LUCY FRANCES HARRIS m. Henry Clay Snead, son of William H. Snead and Harriett Godwin of Georgia.
  2. MARY OCTAVIA HARRIS m. Robert F. Nix, bro. of Billington Malone Nix, sons of George Washington Nix and Telitha Garrett of Twiggs County, Georgia, later of Louisiana.
  3. SIMEON LAWRENCE HARRIS, daughter, born after the death of his father, Billington Malone Nix, brother to Robert F. Nix, son of George Washington Nix and Telitha Garrett of Twiggs County, later of Louisiana.
