Harrell of North Carolina; Stewart & Washington Counties



"The Harrell family came from North Carolina. Jesse, the head of the family, was a prosperous farmer in that State and a man of great strength of character and fine business ability. A son, Solomon, was born in North Carolina in 1796, came to Georgia in 1800 with his children who migrated to Washington County. Solomon Harrell served in the War of 1812 and married Nancy Turner and they had five children. Two were: Judge D. B. Harrell and Solomon Harrell. Solomon Harrell, Sr. died in 1858, age 62. His wife died in 1845. Judge Harrell was a little boy when his parents located in Stewart County." Memoirs of Georgia (1895).
Jesse Harrell was born ca 1770 in North Carolina and came to Georgia where he was listed on the 1840 Stewart County Census, aged 60-70 years. He married Rachel Kittrell on 11 November 1790 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Jesse drew in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, a resident of Washington County, and appeared on the 1825 Washington County Tax Digest as owning 2,043 acres and 8282 acres. The 1832 Georgia Land Lottery showed Jesse Harrell, Soldier of the Late War, in Williams District, Washington County, drew land in the 7th District, 3rd Section of Murray County. Jesse Harrell died August of 1845 in Stewart County, Georgia, his LWT dated 21 August 1845, Stewart County Deed Book A, page 84-85, in which he named his granddaughters: Mary Ann and Eliza Turner, the daughters of James K. Turner; daughter, Susanna Trotman; daughter-in-law, Mary Marrell, wife of Henry; sons, Solomon, David and Jesse, to whom he gave land in Washington County; son, John. Issue:
