Hardeman of Newton County


Robert C. Hardeman was born in 1838 in Georgia. His occupation was that of a Comptroller's Clerk in Oxford. Wife, Jennie Murrell, was born 1842, a daughter of Amanda Murrell, born 1813 in Virginia, with whom the family resided in 1880 at Oxford. Hardeman, Robert C. was born in Macon on November 22, 1838, graduated from Emory College in 1859. He was a merchant in Covington and afterwards in Macon. He had a cotton warehouse, the firm being Hardeman & Sparks. He entered the confederate service as a private in the Second Georgia battallion; transferred after one year to the 45th Georgia Regt as quartermaster. In 1877 he entered the office of Comptroller General Goldsmith as bookkeeper until 1884, then nominated for state treasurer. Issue:
