Andrew Jackson Hansellwas the son of William Young Hansell (born in Virginia). He was born January 1815 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia and died 24 April 1881 in Cobb County. He married on 2 December 1841 in Wilkes County Caroline Clifford Shepherd (born 1821 in Georgia), a daughter of Andrew Shepherd and his wife, Mary (Hillhouse) Shepherd.

General Hansell was a very popular figure in Roswell, frequently asked to give lectures. Tranquilla was built in 1849 by Andrew Jackson Hansell, who later became a Confederal general. Interestingly enough, General Hansell moved to Mimosa Hall in Roswell after the War Between the States when he was made president of the Roswell Mills...The home of the General in Marietta was sold in 1869 to George Camp... White Columns in Georgia by Medora Field Perkerson. In 1869 he purchased from John Dunwody's mansion Mimosa Hall in Roswell, Georgia.
