Hammond of Baldwin County
Charles Hammond had sons, viz: Charles Hammond, who died during the Revolutionary War; Colonel Samuel Hammond, the Military Governor of Missouri and later Secretary of State of South Carolina; and Abner Hammond.
Captain Abner Hammond came to Georgia as a young boy, with his father. He was born 1762 in North Farmham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, and died in 1829, having served as Secretary of State of Georgia. His LWT is in Baldwin County, dated 11 September 1819, probated July of 1830, and names his wife, Sally, as executrix. Also mentions his daughter, Sally Hammon d, by his former wife. Witnesses: John Scott, Daniel Sturges and Thomas B. Stubbs. He married (1) Anne Jones and (2) Sarah Dudley of Richmond, Virginia.

- John Hammond, born 1811 Louisville, Georgia, died 1885 at Midway. He married Caroline Fort on 1 November 1842 in Baldwin County, the daughter of Judge Moses Fort and the nierce of Dr. Tomlinson; and great-niece of George Walton, signed of the Declaration of Independence. He was the Ordinary in Baldwin County. They h
ad 6 children. Issue:
- John LeRoy Hammond, died 1891. He married Marion Morrell of Savannah and had three children. He was President of the First National Bank of Savannah.
- Frances Martha Hammond married George W. Hollingsworth and had 6 children.
- James Polk Hammond married Mary Ella Hill of Savannah, died 1902 in Griffin.
- Caroline Fort Hammond married Chauncey Wright of Milledgeville. She died in 1898. Had one son.
- Eudosia Moore Hammond married Robert Adams, Presbyterian Minister; former President of the Presbyterian College of South Carolina. Had 6 children.
- Sarah Ellen Hammond married Irby Adams of Eatonton. Had 5 children.
- Martha Hammond married Rev. Charles A. Stillman, Presbyterian Minister, on 19 November 1844 in Baldwin County.
- Eleanor Hammond married Mr. Woods.
- Catherine D. Hammond married David M. Edwards on 19 September 1842 in Baldwin County.
- Mary Hammonds married William C. McIver, in Baldwin County, on 14 November 1850.
