Elbert and Jackson Counties
Charles Gunter, Revolutionary War Soldier,[1] was born 8 December 1759, and married on 16 July 1813 Elizabeth (born 1784 in Virginia). He died on 23 November 1851 in Jackson County, Georgia. When still a small child, he removed to York County, South Carolina where he enlisted in the American Revolution as a very young man. After the war, he removed to Jackson County, Georgia. Issue:
- Charles Gunter, born 1791, died 1822 in Elbert County. The Land Court Records issued him a warrant dated 3 October 1803. "Charles Gunter, self, 2 in family." In 1815, Charles Gunter drew a headright grant of 291-1/2 acres of land in Elbert County. Ultimately, he removed to Hall County.[2]
II. Gideon Gunter was a resident of Jackson County in 1830. [3] He married (1) 25 July 1811 in Jackson County, Polly Jones (born 1790 in Georgia, died before 1850). He married (2) 6 November 1868, Elizabeth Harris in Taylor County, Kentucky. Issue:[4]
- Claborson Gunter, born ca 1817 in Jackson County.
- Richard Gunter, born 1833 in Jackson County.
- Amanda Gunter, born 1835 in Jackson County.
