Goode of Henrico County Virginia and Edgefield County, South Carolina



Samuel Goode came Barbadoes and settled in Henrico County, Virginia. His son, Samuel Goode, born ca 1700, died 1797 in Prince Edward County, Virginia married Susannah Burwell, a daughter of Lewis Burwell, Sr. and his wife, Martha (Lear) Burwell. They had a number of children, among whom were Philip and Mackerness Goode.

Philip Goode, born ca 1738, came from Charlotte County, Virginia, to Edgefield County as early as 1768, then known as Granville County. According to a deed of Robert Walton and Blanche, his wife, dated 2/20/1790 to John Anderson of Granville County, 300 acres were granted to James Noloboy and Philip Goode on Stephens Creek. The LWT of Philip Goode of Granville County was dated 3/18/1776, probated 9/9/1791. Wife, Ann. Issue:
Edgefield County Deed Book 1, pp. 266-267. 3/15/1790. Mack Goode of Charlotte County, Virginia to John Thurmond of Edgefield County, South Carolina for 36 pounds sold 250 acres of land on Camp branch of Beaverdam of Turkey Creek, bounded by said Thurmond, John Elam and land supposed to belong to David George and the Estate of Thomas Goode, deceased. Oath of John Martin 4/17/1790 that he did see Mack Goode in the State of Virginia sign the instrument.
