Gilmer of Oglethorpe County
John Blair Gilmer of Oglethorpe County, planter, son of George Gilmer and his 3rd wife, fought in the Revolutionary War. He was at the siege of Yorktown for which he received bounty lands in Wilkes County. In 1770 he married Mildred Thornton Meriwether, who died in 1826. . His LWT dated 8 August 1793, probated 20 June 1794, in Oglethorpe County. Issue:
- John Thornton Gilmer (1774-1831) married Martha Gaines Harvie in 1803 and removed to Kentucky, then to Illinois.
- Nicholas Meriwether Gilmer was born 1776, married Amelia Clarke.
- Francis Meriwether Gilmer (1785-1804) married in 1808 Martha Barnett (1790-1855), the daughter of William Barnett, Revolutionary War Soldier and his wife Martha Johnson.
- George Oglethorpe Gilmer married Martha Johnson, the daughter of Nicholas Johnson.
- David H. Gilmer married Virginia Clark.
- Harrison Blair Gilmer. Married in 1808 Gabriel Christian.
- Elizabeth (Betsy) Gilmer Thomas McGehee.
- Sally Lewis Gilmer married Burton Taliaferro.
- Jane Gilmer married (1) Thomas Johnson (2) Abner McGehee of Alabama.
Another Family. Thomas Meriwether Gilmer, son of Peachy Ridgeway Gilmer and his wife, Mary Meriwether of Virginia, was born 1760 in Virginia, and died on the Broad River in Oglethorpe County. His LWT dated 25 June 1817, probated 3 September 1817, Oglethorpe County. The Codicil left his son, Peachy R. Gilmer and his heirs at the death of (his mother), Elizabeth, "my lot of land at Chalebrate Springs in Madison County, purchased of Alexander." He served during the American Revolution under Marquis de La Fayette, having active service in Georgia, for which he received land grants. In 1783, he married Elizabeth Lewis (1765-1855), the daughter of Thomas Lewis (1718-1790), Revolutionary War Soldier of Virginia, and his wife, Jane Strother.

- Peachy Ridgeway Gilmer who married (1) Mary Boutwell Harvie (2) Caroline Thomas, widow. Removed to Alabama.
- Mary Meriwether Gilmer married (1) Warren Taliaferro, son of Zachariah Taliaferro (born 1730 Virginia, died 1811, South Carolina), a Revolutionary War Soldier and his wife Mary Boutwell. Mary married (2) Nicholas Powers.
- Thomas Lewis Gilmer married (1) Nancy Harvie (2) Ann Harper.
- George Rockingham Gilmer, born 1790, married Eliza Frances Grattan, the daughter of Robert Grattan, Revolutionary War Soldier of Virginia and his wife, Elizabeth Gilmer. He was a soldier of the War of 1812 and also served as Governor of Georgia.
- John Gilmer (1792-1860 married (1) Lucy Johnson (2) Susan Barnett Gresham.
- William Benjamin Strother Gilmer married Elizabeth Marks and moved to Alabama.
- Charles Lewis Gilmer. Married (1) Nancy Marks (2) Matilda Kyle, widow.
- Lucy Ann Sophia Gilmer married Senator B. S. Bibb of Alahama.
- James Gilmer.
