Gates of Virginia and Jefferson County

Charles Gates was born 15 June 1738 in Henry County, Virginia, died 9 October 1805 in Georgia. Wife, Elizabeth. Issue:

• Valentine Gates, died ca 1830 in Washington County, Mississippi. First, he removed to Georgia. "Valentine Gates bought on 18 February 1799 of Robert Campbell 200 acres on Crooked Creek, originally surveyed for Samuel Gardner, a large land dealer." Gone to Georgia by Charles Hamlin.
• Hezekiah Gates, Revolutionary War Soldier. In 1803 he was a Justice of the Peace in Jefferson County. He drew in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, while a resident of Jefferson County; also, in the 1827 lottery, a resident of Walton County. He married on 6 October 1806 in Jackson County, Miss Polly Hamilton.

• Samuel Gates, born 11 March 1753 in Virginia, died 1814 in Jefferson County, Georgia.
• Charles Gates, born 14 January 1761 in Virginia, died 10 May 1846.
• Theney Gates, born 12 October 1767 in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, died 1 November 1821 in Jones County, Georgia.
