After the cruel war was over' he returned to his home, crowned with a soldier's honors, to wit: courage proven upon the bloody field of carnage, duty well performed and a lofty patriotism, He found his home in ruins and his plantations in desolation, the results of a ruthless enemy's ruthless enemy's pillaging."
