FORD/FOURDE

Robert Fourde was christened on 16 November 1586 in Plymouth, Devonshire, England, married Elizabeth ca 1626. Issue:

I. Thomas Ford was christened 8 April 1627 in Seaton & Beer, Devonshire, England.

II. Robert Ford was christened on 31 Jan 1629 in Seaton & Beer, Devonshire, England.

III. Andrew Ford was christened on 24 Feb 1629 in St. Bartholomew, the Great, London, England. In 1673, Andrew Ford stated that he was one of the original inhabitants and purchasers of Weymouth, Massachusetts, but that he was not included in the first land division of 1636, although he did appear in one made 1642-1644. He may have come to America during the great migration of 1638-1639. He was included as a landowner in a record sometime between 26 Oct 1642 and 21 May 1644.

The first settlers of Weymouth came from Dorset, Devon and Somerset, and consisted of about 100 persons (21 families), under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Hull. They sailed from England about 20 March 1635, arriving in Dorchester, Massachusetts on 7 June 1635. This group of emigrants had permission to settle in Wessagusset, which name was later changed to Weymouth. The Hull Company included Robert Lovell and his family, whose daughter, Ellinor Lovell, married Andrew Ford in 1650 Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Ellenor was a daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Lovell, born 1628 in Weymouth, Dorset County, England, died before 1693 in Weymouth. Ellenor Lovell Ford stated that she was aged about 38 years (1667) in Suffolk Co. Deeds. The Robert Lovell family sailed with the Hull Company from Wookey Parish, Somerset, England. (See Hotten, a.p. citation, p. 285). The ship's manifest did not list the name of Andrew Ford. Proof of Andrew's marriage to Ellinor Lovell is in the LWT of Robert Lovell who mentioned his on-in-law, Andrew Ford, dated 3 April 1651, probated 25 June 1672 at Weymouth, Massachusetts. Andrew Ford was included as a landowner in 1642 and 1644 ... "seven acres in the East field first given to Masachill Barnard on the East with Edmond Hartes land on the west and north with the land of Mr. Jener on the south with the Indianes land." On 3 May 1644 Andrew Ford was made a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At the annual town meeting of Weymouth which occurred on 24 Nov 1662, Andrew Ford and James Lovell, his wife's brothers, were among four men chosen to be Wardens for the ensuing year.

In 1673 Andrew Ford was granted acreage in Cedar Swamp, because of a claim which he made declaring himself as an original inhabitant and purchaser of the town. He began acquiring land in Weymouth, along with his brother-in-law, James Lovell.

The LWT of Andrew Ford, in Hangham, was probated 23 March 1692/3, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, Vol. 13, pp. 146-147. "I, Andrew Ford, Senior, late of the Town of Weymouth, now resident in Hingham in the province of Massachusetts Bay in New England....I bequeath unto my son, Israel Ford, my dwelling house (orchard with about 20 acres of upland and swampland)...cattle, swine, sheep...I give and bequeath unto my son, Nathaniel Ford....fifteen acres of upland...also 200 acres (Quinne Poge)....I give to my son, Andrew Ford, twelve pence...I give unto my son James Ford...200 acres at a place called Quinne Poge neare New Roxbery...To the heirs of my son, Joseph Ford, deceased, one shilling....I give unto my son, Samuel Ford, 200 acres of the tract at Quinne Poge...I give to my daughter, Mary Whitman...1000 acres at Quinne Poge...I give to my daughter, Silence...100 acres at Quinne Poge...I give to my daughter, Prudence Lincoln, the wife of Joseph Lincoln....a share of the land in the late Colony of Plymouth...being about 50 acres...."

A. James Ford was born ca 1651 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, died before 1702 in Weymouth. He was alive at the time of his father's LWT (1692), but was probably deceased before 1702, when his brother, Andrew Ford, was called the "heir at law" of Ebenezer Ford, which indicates that Andrew Ford was the oldest living brother. Plymouth Colony Deed, Vol. 4, p. 17, 5 March 1764/5, George Danson of Middleboro, yeoman, for 5 lbs....land near Indian Head River Pond and the James River and within the Colony of Plymouth, etc., deeded to James Foord of Weymouth, husbandman. James Ford was paid 2 pds. for a share of charges against the settlement of the boundary line at a meeting of the proprietors of Major's Purchase on 21 April 1685. (This property was in Duxbury, now Pembroke, and was a cedar swamp). Later, John Ford of Hanover, New Jersey, bequeathed to his son, Jacob Ford "my seeder swamp in Duxbury and also half of my lands that lie in Quennebog up New London River that falls to me by my father." Quennebog was in Connecticut. Issue:
