Legend…The Embry family begins with Thomas Embry, born ca 1735 in Brunswick County who married Anna Jackson (died 9/11/1833 on their plantation in Oglethorpe County on Cloud Creek) in Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia.

Joseph Wiley Embry, son of Thomas and Anna (above), was born 3/10/1758 in Goochland, Virginia, St. James Parish, and died after 1850 in Coosa County, Alabama. He was married to Rachael Olive (born 12/31/1759 in Wake County, North Carolina) ca 1779 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Known Issue:

Britton Embry, born 12/17/1779 in Virginia, died 1828 or 1829 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, married 3/10/1804 in Oglethorpe County to Katherine (Caty) Hughs Elliott (1790-1852). Issue:

· Wiley Embry, born 1/19/1805 in Oglethorpe County, died 3/26/1874 married 12/23/1824 Divinia Howard in Oglethorpe County.

· Elijah J. Embry, born 1808 in Oglethorpe County.

· Joseph William Embry.

Merrill Embry, born 3/27/1782 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, died 1/20/1843 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was married to Divinia Howard (9/20/1786-12/10/1862) on 12/6/1804 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Issue:

· Hiram Embry, born 11/29/1816 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

· Abel Owen Embry, born 1/25/1807 in Oglethorpe County, died 1869 in Villa Rica, Carroll County, Georgia, buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. His LWT is dated 11/27/1867, probated 9/8/1869. To his wife, Nancy he bequeathed his plantation, Lot 113 in the 6^th district, horses, cattle, etc; also lot 128 in the 6^th district. To daughter, Mary H. Stone he bequeathed Lot 122 and 20 acres of Lot 123. Also left personal items to his daughter, Julia Ann. Other married daughters mentioned but not named to whom he had previously given items.

· Martha Embry, born 1/27/1809 in Oglethorpe County.

· Joseph Wiley Embry, born 3/10/1811 in Oglethorpe County.

· Mary Anne Embry, born 9/5/1812/1813 in Oglethorpe County, died 1892.

· Lucretia Embry, born 12/4/1814 in Oglethorpe County, died after 1894 in Parks, Scott County, Arkansas, buried in the Poss Hawskins Cemetery.

· Elizabeth Embry, born 11/29/1816 in Oglethorpe County.
