Ellis of Clayton & Henry Counties
A bond on the estate of Shadrack Ellis was posted by A. N. Clardy and Joseph Caldwell, as securities, on 1 May 1852, DeKalb County Minute Book A, page 179; Book 2, page 11. Presumably, this Shadrack is the father of Shadrick M., listed below. Shadrick M. Ellis was born 1826 in Georgia; his parents were born in South Carolina. Shadrick died 21 May 1937. He married Lucinda M. Adams (born 1835 in Monroe County) on 17 August 1856 in Henry County, the daughter of George Adams. They resided in Henry Countil until about 1873; listed on the 1880 Clayton County Census. Issue:[1]
- George Washington Ellis, born 22 May 1858 in Henry County, died 21 May 1937 in Fulton County. Listed on the 1900 Fayette County Census, Fayetteville. He married Amanda Elizabeth Wight (born March 1864). Issue:
- Dubard Wight Ellis, born 19 August 1882 Clayton County, died 9 March 1946. He married on 23 August 1901 in Fulton County, Evelina L. Dwight (born 28 January 1886 Georgia), daughter of William Henry Dwight and his wife, Sarah (Walters) Dwight. Issue:
- Loy Elbert Ellis married on 10 February 1924, Laura Bell Shiftlet (born 4 October 1904 in Fulton County), daughter of John Jackson Shiflet and his wife, Ella (Tyson) Shiflet. Issue:
- Fred Edward Ellis, born 5 December 1924 Atlanta, Fulton County. He married on 19 May 1947, Susan Day Bivins (born 19 May 1932 in Bartow County). Issue: Marie Evelyn Ellis, born 25 July 1948 Atlanta, Fulton County, married on 31 May 1975 Homer Layton Cochran.
