Edge of Wilkes & Monroe Counties

Nehemiah Edge, the son of Nehemiah and Sarah Edge, was born 1754 in Somerset County Maryland, died 1806 in Taliaferro County, Georgia. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier with the North Carolina Troops for which he received land grants in Wilkes County. He married Elizabeth Doster (born 1764), daughter of Lieut. Jonathan Doster and his wife, Margaret. Wilkes County Minutes of the Inferior Court (1811-1817), page 29 : Nehemiah Edge was removed as administratior of the estate of William Towns, deceased and Rebecca qualified with Pleasant Towns. He deeded William Casey 250 acres on Little River (Wilkes Deed Book HH, page 62) adjoining John Clark, originally granted Nehemiah Edge in 1787. Issue:

1. Obediah Edge was born ca 1780. The Minutes of the Inferior Court of Wilkes County, 1801-1812, page 114, Obediah Edge and Sally Saxon were appointed and duly sworn as temporary administrators of the estate of David Saxon, deceased. He drew in the 1803-1832 Wilkes County Land Lotteries, 2 draws; also drawing was Nehemiah Edge, 2 draws, and James Edge, 2 draws. The last will and testament of Obediah Edge was dated 11 February 1837, probated 3 March 1845 in Monroe County. Wife, Aley. Named his children. Issue:
   • Mary Edge married William Folds.
   • Marlin Edge.
   • Warren W. Edge, lived in Clarke County in 1850.
   • Garland Edge, farmer, was born 1804. He married Elizabeth Reese (license) on 18 March 1828 in Monroe County. She was born 1842. His LWT dated 29 October 1869, probated 22 November 1869 in Monroe County. Issue:
   1. Benjamin Edge, born 1834 Georgia. His 4 children mentioned as the grandchildren of Garland Edge.
   2. Laura Edge, born 1838 Georgia.
   3. Joseph G. Edge, born 1841 Georgia.
   4. Obediah W. Edge, born 1848 Monroe County.
   5. Frances Edge married John W. Zellner.
   6. Ann Edge married Mr. Zellner.
   7. Elvina F. Edge, born 1837 Georgia.
   8. Simpson Edge.
   9. Thomas Edge, born 1843 Monroe County.
