Dozier of France, Virginia & Georgia



The first of this Huguenot family in America was Leonard Dozier who died between May 1692 and July of 1693 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His wife, Elizabeth, was appointed administratrix of his estate on 26 July 1693. In Westmoreland Order Book (1690-1698), page 100, his issue was named, viz: Richard, Frances, William, John and Leonard. Issue:[1]

  3. Leonard Dozier III was born 1710 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, married on 30 January 1733 Ann Gayle (born 1717). They had 7 sons and three daughters. He died in 1785. Issue:
    1. James Dozier, born 2 September 1737, died 1807. His LWT was dated 27 September 1804 in Warren County, Georgia. Issue:
    1. William Dozier, Revolutionary War Soldier, died before his father.
    2. John Dozier who married three times.
    3. James Dozier, Jr., married Elizabeth Staples in Wilkes County, Georgia.
    4. Susannah Dozier, born 16 November 1739, married Mark Thornton in Lunenburg County, Virginia.
    5. John Dozier, born 2 December 1741, died 1807 in South Carolina. He was a Captain of a company during the Revolutionary War.
    6. William Dozier, born 16 March 1743.[2]
    7. Jemima Dozier, born 22 May 1746.
    8. Keziah Dozier, born 26 May 1749.
    9. Leonard Dozier, born 7 May 1751.
    10. Thomas Dozier, born 29 June 1753.
    11. Anne Dozier, born 1755.
    12. Richard Mark Dozier, born 15 August 1760.
