Michael Dickson, Sr. first resided in Lunenburg County, Virginia, before removing to Caswell County, North Carolina. He came to Lunenburg with his kinsman, Josiah Dickson, in 1746, when they purchased land. Within a year, Michael married Mary Dickson (deceased by 1763), the daughter of Thomas Dickson (1690-1763). In 1748, Thomas Dickson conveyed 382 acres of his 536 acre grant to his "son-in-law, Michael Dickson." Early in 1751 Michael and Josiah disposed of their land holdings and removed to Granville County, North Carolina. Michael settled in what later became Orange, and finally Caswell County (later Person County), North Carolina. In 1779, Michael Dickson, Sr. deeded land to his sons, Michael Jr. and Josiah. Michael, Sr. Died 1796 in Person County, North Carolina; Josiah (son) was administrator. Josiah Dickson died 1804 in Person County, North Carolina.
This long and well-established family in Georgia began with Michael Dickson, Jr., born 1743 in Virginia, who died November 1803 in Hancock County, Georgia. He married Lucy Crawford, daughter of Thomas Crawford and his wife, Lucy (Atwood) Crawford of Virginia. His LWT dated 27 August 1803, probated 3 December 1803 named his wife as Martha. "Michael Dickson of South Carolina, Certificate of Samuel Jack 13 March 1784 that he served as Captain of the Battle of Minutemen, though not an inhabitant of the State." McCalls Roster of the Revolution. In 1793, he received a land grant of 100 acres in Effingham County; also in 1786, 200 acres. In 1793, received 560 acres in Washington County; 1789, 575 acres; 1790, 337 acres; 1800, 876 acres. He drew in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery. He is buried in the Sparta town cemetery, tombstone is marked. Next to his grave is that of Lucy Dickson, died 1849, age 56 years. Issue:[1]

- Thomas Dickson, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born ca 1766 in Virginia, his LWT dated 1827 in Hancock County. In 1831 Hancock County Allen Christie was appointed administrator of his estate (Hancock Book M, Estates, page 720; Book N, Estates, page 110), on 6 September 1830 when Thomas Cheely, John Cheely, Sarah Carter, Elijah Wortham, and James Thomas were appointed to lay off and assign heirs and distributes of the Estate of Thomas Dickson. Executor: Josiah Dickson. His LWT was produced by Josiah Dickson, executor, Hancock Book M, page 182. He drew in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery, while a resident of Hancock County, receiving 208 acres in 1799, listed as a Revolutionary War Soldier. Wife, Elizabeth. Issue:

J. Matilda Dickson married Elijah Wortham. Rutha Dickson, died 1855 in Hancock County. Ruth Dickson. Her LWT dated 1855, Hancock County, named brothers: Thomas and David Dickson. Heir: Mother, "in consideration of her great kindness shown during my many years of affliction"l (left all there interest in her deceased father’s estate).

V. Curry Dickson married Elizabeth Shi on 9 December 1812 in Hancock County. Curry Dickson was the grandfather of William S. Dickson of Sparta, a prosperous planter living 5 miles southeast of Sparta, the son of James M. and Margaret A. (Crawford) Dickson. Issue of Curry and Elizabeth:A. James M.
