MATTHEW CURLS

MATTHEW CURLS was born 1760/1770, died 1840/1850 in Montgomery Co., Ga., lived in Georgia prior to the Revolution. Be appears on the Harvey List of Revolutionary War Soldiers and is listed as a pensioner in 1840. He was on the 1796 Montgomery Co., Ga. Tax Digest. Issue:

• JOHN CURLS b. 1800 in Montgomery Co., Ga. m. Stacy (b. 1800), lived in that part of Montgomery Co. from which Emanuel Co. was taken. However, in 1839 John Curls received a grant of land in Montgomery Co., the eastern boundary being Emanuel Co. He removed to Mitchell Co., Ga. sometime after 1860 and d. 1870/1880 Mitchell Co., Ga. Issue:

  1. Alexander Curls, son of John, was b. 1832, moved to Mitchell Co. by 1857 where he was a member of the Mt. Olive Church. he lived in McElveenville District. He served in Civil War in Co. C, 51st Regt., Ga. Volunteer Infantry. He d. 3/6/1888 of heart disease contracted while in service. His widow, Sarah, was administratrix of his estate. Issue:

     3. Elizabeth M. Curls b. 1853.
     4. Thomas Curls b. 1865.
     5. Robert Eli Curls b. 1868.
     6. Eveline S. Curls b. 1871.

  2. W. Roan Curls, son of John, was b. 2/2/1832 in Montgomery Co., Ga. m. Emily (b. 1834). Removed to Mitchell o., Ga. sometime after 1860 where his older brother, Alexander, already lived. He served In the Civil War, enlisting two separate times. He d. 1870/1880 in Mitchell Co., Ga. Issue:

     1. Alexander Curls b. 1854, d. 1928 Colquitt Co., Ga. m. Nancy Pyles sometime between 1880-1890, the widow of Mr. Hart and daughter of Bathsheba Kimbrel and Greenbury Pyles. Removed to Mitchell Co., Ga. with his father sometime after 1860. Issue: Emiline Curls.
     2. Thomas Isaac Curls, d. 1927/1928 Colquitt Co., Ga.
