Crowell of Henry County



Legend The first known Crowell is Peter, believed to be Peter Kroll who arrived in Philadelphia in 1734 and who removed to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. His home was located on Buffalo Creek, 100 acres of which he and his wife Catherine sold on December 10, 1762 to Conrad Haraha for 1200 pounds.[1] He was born 1714 in Germany and married Kadrena (Catherine) in Pennsylvania.
Simon Crowell, son of Peter (above), resided in that part of Mecklenburg County which became Union County. Sim had three sons: Samuel, George and Charlie who resided on Goose Creek. Simon was born ca 1731 in Pennsylvania and died May 1, 1837, his tombstone saying that he was aged 106 years. He was married to Isabella McWilliams on 2/2/1797. Issue:[2]
  • William Crowell, son of Peter (above), was born 1740 in Pennsylvania and died 1822 in Bedford County, Tennessee.
  • Ditterich Crowell, son of Peter (above), was born ca 1744 in Pennsylvania.
  • George Crowell, son of Peter (above), was born 7/1747 in Pennsylvania and died 10/23/1837 in Stanly County, North Carolina. He was married to Jemmena Sharrin. Issue:
    1. John Crowell, born 1771 in North Carolina, died in Tennessee.
    2. Katherine Crowell, born ca 1773 in North Carolina.
    3. Sarah Crowell.
    4. Peter Crowell.
    5. William Crowell, born 1777 in North Carolina, died 1853 in Stanly County, North Carolina.
    6. Moses Crowell died 1848 in Kentucky.
    7. George Crowell, born 8/15/1780 in Stanly County, North Carolina, died 2/4/1852 in North Carolina.
