Thomas acquired his plantation in south Clayton County in 1835. It is a home constructed with hand-hewn timbers and the interior woodwork is pine. During the War Between the States and the battle of Jonesboro, it was told that Thomas Crawford filled the tall porch columns with grains, to prevent its capture by the enemy. The large plantation was run by G. P. Babb until 1911; and in 1942 it was sold to the politician, Governor Eugene Talmadge who never occupied the home. It was not occupied until about 1945 when Herman E. Talmadge removed there. 1200 acres surrounded the Talmadge plantation.
