CRAWFORD of Virginia and Georgia



Charles Crawford, Revolutionary War Soldier, resided in Columbia County, Georgia, was b. 23 Dec 1738 in Hanover Co., Virginia, d. 1813 m. Jane Maxwell, who was b. 24 Jul 1740 Hanover Co., Virginia, died 11 Nov 1814. He came to Georgia as a boy, at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He served as Captain, and was in the siege of Savannah, and was taken prisoner at Augusta. His LWT dated 27 Sept 1811, probated 4 Jan 1814, Columbia Co., Ga. Charles Crawford, Esquire purchased 287- 1/2 acres for 10 pds. from Timothy Lee and Rachael, his wife, on 16 Sept 1793, Columbia County, being part of a 927-acre tract granted to the firm of Crawford & Lee on 14 Nov 1787.
