Cotton of Monroe County



John Cotton was born 12 August 1778 in North Carolina (probably Northampton County), died 4 July 1850. He married Margaret T. Pickard (1781-5 June 1872), both are buried in the Cotton Family Cemetery in Bolingbroke, Georgia. His LWT dated 2 July 1850, probated 2 September 1850, Monroe County. Heirs: Peter Jones and his son, John Dallas Mosely; John G. Jones, son of Peter Jones; John Cotton; daughter of Cyrus Cotton and his wife, Nancy Bailey; Mary Ross, daughter of Cyrus Cotton and the wife of William Ross; Mary Williams, the daughter of Enoch Green; Caroline Jones, the daughter of Peter Jones; Daniel Heisler and William Heisler, sons of Daniel, Sr.; Margaret Heisler, daughter of Daniel, Sr.; Sarah Ann Frances Nowell, daughter of Luke Nowel; Henry Singleton, in trust for niece, Martha Dukes (who is the daughter of my brother, Daniel Cotton); and Luke Nowel.

Another Family. William Cotton was born 1768 in North Carolina. Wife, Eliza, born 1806. His LWT dated 4 February 1853, probated 5 February 1854 in Monroe County, named wife, Eliza S. as executrix. In 1830, there were three families living in Monroe County, viz; William Cotton, John Cotton, and Mary Cotton.
