Cook of Jefferson & Fayette Counties



John Cook was born 1761 in Pennsylvania. Wife, Milley, born 1764 in Virginia. He drew in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, while a resident of Jefferson County.; in 1827 he drew land in Lee County, then a resident of Fayette County which he appears to have settled upon.[1] He was a resident of Fayette County in 1850, aged 89 years. Issue:

I. Harbard Cook, born ca 1790. In 1820, he was listed on the Jefferson County Census, but appeared on the 1830-1850[2] Fayette County Census. He died June 1854 in Fayette County, his LWT dated 3 May 1854, probated 4 June 1854, Fayette County Will Book A, page 126-8. He named his daughter, Mary Blackstock, the wife of Kendred B. Blackstock. Also, his wife, Elizabeth with whom he had lived for 32 years. His son, William N. Cook was executor.[3] Elizabeth Cook and William W. Cook were executors of LWT of Harbard Cook. Known issue:

Cook, the executor, page 512-514 (1854) paid cash to Chambers Walker, Christopher Whitman, Moses Daniel, John Gideon, Isaac Cook, William M. Conan, Jesse Cook, David Cayle (for note and interest), and voucher #6 was for Elizabeth Cook.
[4] Thomas E. Cook, orphan of Harbard Cook, in account with Joshua A. Cook, guardian by his agent, J. M. Trimble, paid cash to the Ordinary, George C. King on 1 January 1862, Fayette County; and again on 19 July 1864.
